Southern Utah Wilderness

Southern Utah is full of spectacular scenery you do not want to miss!

Approximately 2.5 million visitors per year flock to southern Utah every year to explore Zion National Park, Utah’s oldest and most visited national park. Zion’s towering rock formations and staggering ecological diversity is an awe-inspiring spectacle worth writing home about. Hikers and canyoneers enjoy exploring its narrow canyons while a ride on the shuttle up the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is enough to captivate most sightseers. The park offers numerous trails, from a two-mile (round trip) walk paralleling the river to an eight-mile (round trip), strenuous ascent to Observation Point, one of the best views of Zion Canyon from the top town. Southern Utah’s gem, Zion National Park is worth visiting again year after year.

While on a Zion National Park vacation, however, there is more to see and experience than the park itself. Southern Utah is also home to numerous locations boasting spectacular red rock scenery, including Red Cliffs Recreation Area, Snow Canyon State Park, and Sand Hollow State Park. Southern Utah also features pioneer historic sites and famous ghost towns, including Grafton, a filming location for “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Boasting some of the top courses in the state, southern Utah boasts year-round golf. Most of the St. George area’s 11 scenic golf courses are sandwiched between red rock cliffs or outcroppings and offer panoramic vistas of the monoliths of Zion National Park and the peaks of the Pine Valley Mountains.

Another oft-forgotten aspect of southern Utah is its prime shopping destinations. Foremost among them is the Zion Factory Stores, a collection of brand-name retail outlets that includes Rue 21, Eddie Bauer, Van Heusen, Polo Ralph Lauren, Levi’s and Factory Brand Shoes. Other area shopping havens are the Promenade at Red Cliff, Ancestor Square and Red Cliffs Mall, anchored by Dillards, JCPenney and Sears.
